The cheval mirror dates back to the late 18th century and was originally designed for Marie Antoinette to use at Versailles.  She so admired the style that she had over 170 throughout the palace.  The 19th Century English cheval mirror, shown here, reveals just how practical they are.  The closed doors conceal a center mirror and two flanking mirrors when opened.  Beautiful in its simplicity.
