Richard Pollack Biography
Richard Pollack studied sculpture as a young student at the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Cleveland Museum of Art. He continued his interest in form, movement and texture as an observer and art collector, for the next forty years while he was a practicing Endodontist in Cleveland, Ohio. After retiring from dentistry in 2001, Richard found his way back to his first love - sculpture. Early works are unglazed, bisque fired, terra-cotta clay that explore a multitude of textures. He later punctuated work with colored glazes, expanding into wall-hung and base-mounted pieces. Current work marries grace and balance with a mastery of texture and precise application of color. Richard won the 2003 and 2004 Michael Sherman Award for Sculpture at Longboat Key Center for the Arts' Fall Members Exhibition. In 2005, he won second prize for sculpture at the Mote Marine/Art Center Sarasota exhibition. Richard Pollack Sculptures can be found in private collections in Highland Park, IL, Longboat Key and Bradenton, FL, Park City, UT, New York City, San Diego, Dallas, and of course, Sarasota and Cleveland.
