Lori Van Houten Biography
My current work consists of large photo-based works on paper. The prints incorporate photographs produced in camera, combined with selected found imagery to form each multi-layered piece. This work is produced by computer and consists of a complex layering and interacting of images. Like drawing, this technique involves a continual back and forth process of erasing and adding to achieve the final outcome. The final product is an archival pigment print on handmade papers from Bhutan and Japan produced in an edition of 5. I am an observer of the natural world. I see and record the shifting light and seasons but my work doesn't depict a particular place or represent a true juxtaposition of objects. My observations are beginnings, ultimately becoming interpretations of place and time.
